The Goddess Goodie Wrap – 3/25/11
Does the rain and generally crappy weather affect anyone else or is it just me? This whole week has been a struggle to get things done. I feel like my life bar is blinking red and is almost depleted. Well thankfully it’s Friday and that fact alone helps my energy level. The one good thing about it is: bad weather = good movie watching weather. That’s perfect considering I have three movies to catch up on! But first…..the Goodie Wrap!
Flashback:
When I was a kid, the very first gaming console my sister and I had was the Atari 2600. I realize I just severely dated myself, but I don’t care because that thing was cool. Sure I was only able to play pong and blackjack for a while but then our library grew. We had Pac-Man and Q-Bert and Frogger and the best game in the entire world…..Pitfall! We had several others as well, but those were the ones I pretty much stuck with. Oh! And Asteroids!! I really wish I still had that thing, but even if I did I know for a fact that the joysticks wouldn’t work. Those things broke so easily. But hey, there’s a ton of them on Ebay so maybe one day I’ll get to hook one up to the big screen HD TV and get my game on again. Until then, I’ll make do with this cheesy little online version.
Products:
As you already know, I love love love movie inspired products. If you’ve followed my previous Goodie Wrap posts, I’ve made it pretty clear. Today is no different. I’m spreading more movie inspired love so get ready.
Aliens vs. Predator Chess Set: I don’t play chess. At all. I couldn’t even tell you all of the pieces or how to situate them on the board. But I really dig this set. I especially like the chest-burster and face-hugger pieces. Thanks to LiveForFilms for the heads up on this. Bad news is this looks to have been a special limited edition item. Bummer!
Retro Videogame Propaganda Posters: I love propaganda style posters. I grew up looking at the WWII propaganda posters that my Dad had up in his den. He actually still has them, framed and everything. This set is actually a set of 5 and all relate to old school video games. I love the Donkey Kong poster, but the others are really great too. Be sure to check them all out. (via ThinkGeek.com)
Videos:
I love a good insult. A good zinger delivered at just the right time can make a movie an instant classic. One of the best I’ve heard, was actually from a short-lived television series on F/X called Starved. “If you were a dog, I’d kick you in the face”. My friends and I have actually used that one quite often. Here’s a tribute to the insult. Keep in mind this is NSFW due to language.
The next video actually made its way around the web earlier this week but I couldn’t resist posting it anyway. It’s a compilation of every bone Steven Seagal has broken in his lustrous film career. Every snap, pop and crack is included. Along with a running tally.

Random Thoughts:
-The Clash of the Titans sequel is officially in production. When word of the remake came out I went from seething anger, to apprehension, to hopeful and back to seething anger. The remake was so bad and I’m amazed they’re continuing on with a sequel. Fingers crossed that the sequel can redeem itself. Although apparently they are doing a post production 3D treatment which just has disaster written all over it. Again. Honestly the only redeeming quality from what I can tell is Liam Neeson. Well….just because.
-Hollywood lost another star this week. Elizabeth Taylor was part of the Hollywood Elite and is truly irreplaceable. Hollywood doesn’t produce stars like her anymore and it’s a damn shame. The classy actresses are slowly going the way of the dinosaur which breaks my heart. These days we get stuck with crappy actresses whose claim to fame is scandal and stealing shit from a jewelry store. Oh wait….*allegedly* stealing shit from a jewelry store. RIP Liz….you’ll be missed in more ways than one.
-The long-in-development remake of Dune is officially dead. At least at Paramount it is. The studio lost the rights after hemming and hawing over whether or not to remake it. The trepidation was spurred on by the $100+ million price tag, which is understandable. There is a following for this property so perhaps another studio will pick up the tab. To be honest, I’ve never been able to make it through the movie, nor the mini-series without falling asleep so I can’t say this news disappoints me. I’m impartial actually. But for the legions of fans, I hope they get their due…erm…Dune.
-And finally…..word just came down on Thursday that Fringe was renewed for a fourth season. Things were looking iffy there for a while and one of the show’s stars, Joshua Jackson even sent out a plea for fans to watch. When the show returned from its holiday hiatus in January, it returned to a Friday night time slot which is normally a kill shot to other shows. The renewal shows that it’s hanging in there even in the graveyard that is the Friday night placement. This season has been a mind bender and I’m happy to see that the network is standing behind the show.
That about does it for this week everyone. I wish you all a safe and happy weekend!

Yea I really like Fringe too. I have so many episodes to catch up on though. JJ Abrams totally rocks my world. I feel you on the Clash of the Titans sequel too.
Oh you must get caught up with Fringe! It’s so good!! The remake of Clash of the Titans is dead to me. There is only the original.
