Saturday Trailer Wrap – 4/30/11
I posted two other trailers this week that are not included here. Harry Potter and Transformers 3 both warranted their own posts, well….just because. I have no other reason. Thankfully there were other trailers this week and I’ve bundled them up nicely for you.
Immortals
Here we get to see Henry Cavill who is the new Superman, before he dons the cape. We also get to see Mickey Rourke, which is always a good thing. This film looks a lot like 300 but it is from the same producers so that makes sense. This one is directed by Tarsem Singh, who also directed that mind bender of a movie with Jennifer Lopez, The Cell. They had a panel for this at WonderCon but I wasn’t able to make it and was bummed out about it. It looks interesting and to be honest, this is right up my alley.
The Devils Double
This one is based on a true story of the guy who was forced to become the body double of Uday Hussein, Saddam Hussein’s son. What a nightmare. Dominic Cooper plays the dual role and from what I can tell by the trailer, he does it well. There’s something about this that just gives me the creeps. The film itself looks pretty darned good though.
Attack the Block
Ohhhh this looks like loads of fun. Attack the Block has gotten rave reviews from various festivals and was finally picked up for US distribution, but an actual US release date hasn’t been announced. I just included it so y’all would keep it in mind. Basically a gaggle of teenagers defend their block from an alien invasion. Sounds awesome right? Right! Oh and if you still need convincing, it was produced by the same folks who gave us Shaun of the Dead. And Nic Frost is in it too.
The Help
Emma Stone stars in The Help as a young writer who, along with two black women turn a proper southern town on its ear in the 1960′s. I really like Emma Stone but have only really seen her in comedy roles. This character still looks to have her sharp wit and dry sense of humor, but the film looks to have a foot in the drama genre. It looks formulaic, but I’ll reserve judgment until I learn more about it.
