It’s been almost two months since the we’ve seen a new episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Director Kevin Tancharoen held the final episode until he could premier it at Comic-Con, which was this past weekend.
This final episode introduces Cyrax and Sektor and the Lin-Kuei cyborg initiative, which aims to mechanize the best assassins in the clan. I recall hearing about these two at the beginning of the series, but now we finally get to see them.
There has been a lot of scuttlebutt over the run of the series and reactions to the series have been both hot and cold. Tancharoen’s vision that meshes together gritty real world action/drama and the fantasy realm have produced criticism as well as praise. Personally, I’ve really enjoyed what he’s achieved. There was a little bit of a lag for me in the middle, but overall, it’s held my interest to the point of being mad about the almost two month wait for the finally. And this is coming from someone who really doesn’t know the MK canon at all. I’ve seen the dreadful first film, but I’ve never played the games so I’m pretty new to all of this.
This is a bittersweet end considering the fate of the series hasn’t been decided yet. There’s been no word on whether it will continue in its current incarnation of a web-series or move on to a feature. It’s up in the air, but one thing’s for sure. Tancharoen is sending it off in style. I really hope we can see this series continue. These nine episodes have laid all of the puzzle piece out, now I’d like to see everything start to fall into place.
