The Cabin in the Woods Trailer Wants You to Forget All You Know About Slasher Films
Word about this film has been traveling the circuit for a couple of years now. After a long long long wait, we finally get to see what the hub bub bub is all about. And from what I can tell, it’s going to be worth the wait.
Written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, and directed by Goddard, the film follows five friends on their remote getaway to…..yep, you guessed it…..a cabin in the woods. To be honest, the exterior shot of the cabin in the trailer reminded me of the cabin in Evil Dead. Anyway, the friends arrive at this creepy cabin and of course, things go south quickly.
The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Jesse Williams, Fran Kranz, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Brian White and Amy Acker. I’m not familiar with most of the people in this film but that won’t stop me from seeing it.
It’s got the typical formula for a slasher flick, but then about halfway through the trailer it takes a most unexpected turn. You’ll have to see it to understand, but that one element made me watch it twice. Needless to say I’m really looking forward to this one.
The Cabin in the Woods is released on April 13, 2012
