First Trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

Prometheus Banner

There has been so much speculation about Ridley Scott’s latest science fiction film, Prometheus.  Will it be a prequel to his classic Alien or not.  Will it involve the space jockey or not.  Apparently final word is that it is not so much a prequel, but will be relatable to the universe Scott created with Alien back in 1979.

Scott has kept busy over the year, but this film marks his return to the science fiction genre, which he helped to define with Alien and Blade Runner.  Here’s the official synopsis from 20th Century Fox:

Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Written by newcomer Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour) and Damon Lindelof (Lost, Star Trek), Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), Michael Fassbender (Shame, X-Men: First Class), Charlize Theron (Monster, Young Adult), Patrick Wilson (The A-Team, Watchmen), Idris Elba (Thor, Luther) and Guy Pearce (Memento, L.A. Confidential).

I can pretty much guarantee that I’ll be at the theater opening weekend as this type of film is right up my alley.  Even though we’ll get to see something about the space jockey, those looking for the signature Alien franchise xenomorphs will be disappointed.  However, that being said, the man behind the design of the xenomorph, H.R. Giger,  will be lending his talents to this film.  It just gets better and better doesn’t it?

AFter watching this trailer, there is no doubt that this in the same universe as Alien.  It’s got that whole “in space no one can hear you scream” vibe to it.

Check out the trailer below and let me know what your thoughts are.

Prometheus will be released in theaters on June 8, 2012.
