Check Out the Shiny New Trailer for The Avengers

MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS

As we get closer to the summer movie season, the marketing machines are about to go into overdrive.  Kicking off this day that only happens once every four years, is the explosive, shiny new trailer for The Avengers…..or as the Brits are calling it: Marvel Avengers Assemble.

I’ll be the first to admit it.  This trailer is big and loud and pretty and shows off all the good points.  It made my heart happy to see Agent Coulson in the house as well.  It’s not a Marvel movie without him as far as I’m concerned.  But let’s get to the meat of it.  Here’s the official synopsis:

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”–the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble in summer 2012. In “Marvel’s The Avengers,” superheroes team up to pull the world back from the brink of disaster when an unexpected enemy threatens global security.

As you probably know, the film is being directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård , Samuel L. Jackson and of course we can’t forget Clark Gregg.

This is the second trailer for the film and it shows a bit more of the characters and what they’re up again.  I think I’ve had enough of big mechanical menaces though.  It looks very Trasformer-y / Battleship-y if you ask me.  Even some of the sound effects are similar.  There is a scene at the end where the team, well….assembles, preparing to do battle and all I could think of  is that if I were Black Widow, I’d have serious superhero weapon envy.

The Avengers arrives in theaters on May 4, 2012.
