The Goddess Goodie Wrap – 4/13/12

Goodie Wrap Header - Large

I’m back and I do apologize for the absence last Friday.  Things are somewhat back to normal this week thankfully.  On deck this weekend is Cabin in the Woods and hopefully Lockout.  Eventually I hope to see The Hunger Games as well, but I’m not sure I will.  The summer movie season is about to get underway and even though it’s only April, there are some decent offerings out there.  Until things really get going, kill some time by checking out this week’s Goodie Wrap.  Oh yes, and don’t forget…it is Friday the 13th so be sure to not run out into the woods half dressed hollering for your friends because chances are, they’re dead.

USS Enterprise in Vegas

When you think of Las Vegas you mainly think of “The Strip” right?  That’s what everyone goes to Vegas for.  The bright lights, booze, dreams of beating the house and coming home with pockets full of cash.  If you happen to venture far enough off the Strip, then you’ve most likely hit up Fremont St. aka old Vegas.  It’s like the Strip’s red-headed step child.  The gambling is a little cheaper and it’s got a sort of trashy charm to it.  Before it became the Fremont Experience, the city was trying to find a way to drive traffic Fremont St. and put out a call for ideas.  It came down to two.  The Fremont Experience, and the Starship Enterprise.  the Starship Enterprise was the brainchild of The Gary Goddard Group and it was their idea to create a destination attraction that people (geeks) would flock to.  Everyone was on board with this idea, and it looked like the project was going to get the go ahead.  That is until Stanley Jaffe, the president and COO of Paramount Communications, put the kabosh on it.  Once that happened, the project died instantly.  What a bummer too.  I would have TOTALLY paid money to see this attraction.  I’ve been down to Fremont and wasn’t impressed.  Well played Mr. Jaffe.  This could have potentially created a financial boon.  Especially because they hold annual Star Trek conventions in Vegas. Personalized Superhero Action Figures

If you ever played with action figures as a kid then you probably imagined yourself as the action figure.  Your former childhood dream can now be a reality with these personalized superhero action figures.  All you have to do is send in front and side view pictures of your face (you know, like a mug shot) and choose the action figure.  You can be Superman, Batman, Batgirl, The Joker or Wonder Woman.  Oh, and you have to shell out $127.49.  That doesn’t include tax or shipping.  Why the odd amount?  Because the company is UK-based and there’s that whole pesky currency exchange rate thing going on.  Still, this is pretty cool and would make a great gift. Game of Thrones Coloring Book

We’re a couple of episode into the new season of Game of Thrones and shit is about to get real.  This is a show that has no qualms about killing off main characters and pulls no punches.  It can lead to some pretty stressful viewing for us fans.  What better way to relax and shake off the stress of the newest episode than to sit down and do a puzzle or two and color.  Check out these four activity sheets from the Game of Thrones Coloring Book.  These are rather tongue-in-cheek, but they are pretty funny.  I love how they drew Viserys.  (via TV.com)

Game of Thrones Map Book

A couple of weeks ago when I posted a newer, more detailed map of the Game of Thrones lands, I mentioned that George R.R. Martin would be releasing a book of maps.  We finally get a sneak peek at what it’s going to look like and map lovers will rejoice I’m sure.  The book is released in October, but you can pre-order it now on Amazon for only $26.40.  Westeros.org gave a description of the book to let us know what’s in store:

The centerpiece of this gorgeous collection is guaranteed to be a must-have for any fan: the complete map of the known world, joining the lands of the Seven Kingdoms and the lands across the Narrow Sea for the first time in series history. But this is just one of many unique maps that aren’t available anywhere else. There is an alternate version that tracks the movements of the series’ protagonists throughout their vast world, along with more detailed versions of the western, middle, and eastern thirds of the world; a full map of Westeros, combining North and South; one of the Dothraki Sea and the Red Wastes; and the Braavos city map. And here, too, are fan favorites detailing everything from urban sprawl to untamed wilds: maps of King’s Landing; The Wall and Beyond the Wall; the Free Cities; and Slaver’s Bay, Valyria, and Sothyros.

This world is so vast and intricate, one needs a map just to keep track.  (via Topless Robot)

This Week….on Etsy

Nerdy Book Ends

I love these so much!  My dream is to one day win the lotto, and have a house big enough to have a library.  If that ever happens, I shall decorate it with these nerdy bookends from Etsy seller Knob Hill Metal Arts.  There are two pages worth but the one in the picture is one of my favorites.  I also love the Tentacle Attack set as well.  The sets are $45 a piece, but really you can’t put a price on items that are this unique.  (via Etsy)

R2D2 Ammo Box

Seriously, the most simple ideas are normally the most brilliant.  My dad had a few of these lying around when I was a kid and I never thought much about them.  Etsy seller NoDice1904 decided to take your basic ammo box, and decorate in a geeky fashion.  Viola! The R2D2 Ammo Box.  Unfortunately this one has been sold, but there is a rather crafty looking Jurassic Park one available.  And who’s to say you couldn’t head on down to your local Army surplus store, or pilfer your dad’s garage to find what you need to make your own.  I just might.  (via Etsy)

Tyrion video

One of the greatest moments in the first season of Game of Thrones came in one of the early episode.  Tyrion confronted Joffrey about going to pay respect to the Starks for their son Bran.  Joffrey is a sniveling little rat bastard and Tyrion slaps him not one, not twice, but three times in one scene.  It was a scene that I watched multiple times and it still makes me giggle.  Apparently it made someone else giggle too because someone created this 10 minute video of the slapping scene set to Led Zeppelin’s “Achilles Last Stand”.  This is pure gold and just what is needed on a gloomy Friday morning.
