The Dark Knight Rises Gets a Third Trailer

July 20th is getting closer and closer, which means that the third and final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman saga will come to a close.  The third trailer was just released and after watching it three times, I’m still not quite sure how I feel about it.  I’m probably one of the few who prefers Batman Begins, but I did love The Dark Knight.  To give an example of how much I’m looking forward to TDKR, I drove 90 minutes to see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol on IMAX just so I could see the six minutes of TDKR footage that was attached.  It was worth it even if I couldn’t understand what the hell Bane was saying.  But that’s all besides the point.

This new trailer doesn’t give away very much about the story, but you get a general idea of what’s happening.  I’m all for not giving anything away and keeping trailers and spoiler free as possible, but the trailers also need to make sense.  It’s a delicate balance and one I’m not sure this trailer achieves.  You get some explosions (always a good thing), some fighting (to be expected), and a quick look at the BatWing.  Trailers are supposed to whet the appetite for the film, and this trailer does manage to do that.  At least for me anyway.  That being said here’s a couple of points the trailer brought up:

  • Anna Hathaway seems to fit right into her skin-tight catsuit.  There was a lot of guff in regards to her casting but I think she’ll manage to prove people wrong when it comes to the physicality of her character
  • There was more Bruce Wayne in the trailer than there was Batman which I find rather telling.  I’m curious to see how much of each the film will have.
  • Bane’s voice has definitely been cleaned up.  In the six minute preview I couldn’t understand him at all, but in this trailer his voice is much more defined and clear.

Written by Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan and David S. Goyer,  directed by Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard and will hit theaters on July 20, 2012.
