Trailer Alert! Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters

Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunter - Gemma Atherton_Jeremy Renner

I remember hearing about this film ages ago and if my memory serves, this was supposed to be out earlier this year.  It was then pushed to early 2013 most likely to avoid having too many Jeremy Renner films out in a short amount of time.  He’s sort of becoming the King of the Franchises as of late.  What with the Avengers, The Bourne Legacy and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and all.  The Bourne film is the weakest of the bunch, but I still enjoyed it.  Anyhoo….a trailer for Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters is finally out for you to feast your eyes upon.

The title alone is dripping in campy, cheesy……stuff.  I can’t say goodness because I just don’t know if I can get behind this yet.  Yes, yes….I will most likely go see it, because you know, that’s how I roll.  But in all honesty, when I first watched the trailer, I just wasn’t sure what I was seeing.

Basically the story goes like this….Hansel and Gretel were terrorized by the evil witch in the gingerbread house as kids, but the film picks up 15 years later they work as bounty hunters for hire and specialize in the indiscriminate extermination of witches of all kinds.

Really it’s just fodder for crazy medieval type weaponry, lots of blood and guts and Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) get to sport some rockin’ leather outfits.  The film was written and directed by Tommy Wirkola, who did that crazy Nazi-zombie film a few years ago called Dead Snow.  I have a feeling this will be a bit twisted, and a lot gory.  Who knows, it may turn out to be a surprise.  However, upon first viewing, I’m not so sure.  Even upon second viewing I’m not so sure.  Maybe it has to do with characters sporting an American accent when their names are Hansel and Gretel.  It just doesn’t seem right.

Aside from Renner and Atherton, the film also stars Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare, Thomas Mann, Zoe Bell and some guy named Stig Frode Henriksen.  I think this film would be infinitely more entertaining if that was THE Stig from Top Gear.

So check out the trailer and let me know what you think.  Will you go see this?  If so….will you see it in 3D or 2D…because you know,  it’s being released in both formats.

Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters will grace theaters on January 11, 2013.

Huh, for some reason, I was expecting it to be a Syfy original film. It sounds like something they would do.

That’s exactly what I thought too! I’ll try to keep an open mind but from the looks of the trailer I’m not so sure about this one.
