Alphas Recap: Episode 2.12 – Need to Know

Alphas Episode 2.12 - David Strathairn_Elias Toufexis

For some reason I kept thinking last night was the finale, but alas, that’s not until next week.  Thank goodness too, because this didn’t play out like a finale.  At least it didn’t feel like one….until the end that is.  We saw a different side of Rosen last week, and that plays through this episode as well.  The new vengeance driven Rosen is the one that will be present, at least until Stanton Parish is either dead or locked away in Building 7, but I don’t think it will last.  Cameron on the other hand….well, he’s a different story.  That man has a whole lot of anger.  More than he knows what to do with.  The two of them together can be a whole lot of trouble, and that’s what this week’s episode is all about.

Last week we saw both Cameron and Rosen go off book and work together through their grief to bring down Parish.  Knowing that going through official channels will only get them so far, the two conspire to do things their way, leaving the rest of the team out of the loop.  Things continue that way in this latest episode, telling the others only what they…as the title says….need to know.

This week, chaos reigns at Alpha HQ.  Everyone is running around trying to get a beat on Parish, especially after a series of terrorist attacks have taken place around the city.  They hit a little too close to home when one happens while Bill and his wife are out walking with the baby.  Rosen suggests using Mitchell, the alpha that stores Parish’s memories, as bait to get to Parish.  Rosen requests that he be moved from Building 7, where he’s already been implanted with a chip, to a local hospital where more tests can be run.  John is apprehensive about transporting a high valued alpha when Kat steps up and volunteers to be John’s backup.  Rosen doesn’t like that idea and he voices his concern, but seeing no other choice but to relent, he does.  As a plan is made, Rosen leans in to whisper something to Cameron, who leaves shortly after.

Rosen tries to talk to Bill so that he can be part of whatever plan Rosen is putting together, but Bill doesn’t have any interest if it’s not official.  Rosen leaves Bill’s office without telling him anything and after Cameron asks about his involvement, Rosen tells him that they can do it without Bill’s help.

John and Kat transport Mitchell when Cornell Scipio ambushes the convoy.  Scipio lobs grenades at them from above, leaving the teams no choice but to defend their position.  John and his team make their way to Scipio’s position on an upper level of a parking garage, while Kat and her team stay to protect Mitchell.  Her efforts are thwarted however, when the alpha known as Dumpy shows up and swipes Mitchell from the truck.  Kat then makes her way to John’s position, only to find that Scipio is gone.  The question is where did he go, because there was no way he could have escaped without being seen by John’s team.

Mitchell is taken to Parish and has his chip that was implanted, removed.  Parish then finds out the hard way that all of his memories that he stored in Mitchell are gone.  Mitchell tells Parish that Rosen injected him with medication and after that, all the extra memories vanished.  He actually seems relieved to feel like himself again, but Parish looks visibly shaken, knowing that all of his memories he entrusted to Mitchell are gone.  Parish starts over and transfers his memories back to Mitchell.  Parish is preparing a shelter to house all of the alphas that will no doubt be injured in the upcoming attack he’s planning.

Back at HQ, Gary tell Bill that he’s still trying to find Skylar and Bill tries to find the rest of the team.  Kat is unsettled at how Scipio went missing so she heads back to the parking garage to see if she missed anything.  Meanwhile, we see that Scipio is chained up to a chair and as he regains consciousness, he realizes that Rosen and Cameron are the ones who got to him.  The two, along with Nina and Rachel try to get Parish’s location and plan out of him, but Scipio’s mind is locked down tight.  Nina pushes him to point of hurting herself and still can’t get anything out of him, so Rosen tries harsher methods….much to Rachel’s dismay.  Rosen takes it a step further with Scipio and injects him with adrenaline, which causes his ability to flare up (pun intended), and since his hands are strategically chained, he ends up burning himself.  The smell and process are too much for Rachel to handle so she bails and calls Bill.  Cameron notices the vehicles pull up and Nina agrees to stay with Rachel and sends Rosen and Cameron to flee.

Parish wants to know the status of Skylar’s project and the alpha watching over her tells him that he’s trying to keep her focused.  Skylar seems out of sorts and is obsessively working on a project, but keeps hearing a ringing sound.  Gary keeps trying to get in touch with her, and finally gets the break he’s been waiting for.  The information gets to Bill, who goes on a mission to find her.  Finally Bill and Gary find Skylar and Zoe hooked up to IV’s and see that another Alpha is controlling them both.  The other Alpha is handled and Bill disconnects the IV’s.  Skylar comes to, and realizes that she’s been working on making mini-photic stimulators for Stanton Parish.  Since she didn’t agree to go with him willingly before, he forced her into helping without her knowing about it.  Bill now knows that there are potentially millions of these devices spread out everywhere and they have to find a way to stop it.

Rosen and Cameron find their way to the facility that Parish is setting up as a shelter and find evidence of Parish’s plan.  Rosen sends Cameron back to the office with the evidence while he stays behind.  Cameron doesn’t want to leave him, but Rosen tells him to go, because Cameron has a family, but he doesn’t.  Once Cameron leaves, Rosen finds Mitchell and gets to see what new memories Parish has stored.  As Rosen looks for a way to stop Parish himself, things take a turn for the worse when Dumpy shows up as Rosen is getting in his car.  Others show up and bullets fly, then upon hearing sirens, Dumpy flees.  Rosen tries to move and finds that he’s been shot in the abdomen.

Of course he won’t die, because he’s in the previews for the finale.  But still, I was a little surprised that he actually took a bullet.  This is no doubt, going to affect the team as Bill and Rachel will want to do everything by the book, but Cameron and Nina are more willing to color outside the lines when the situation warrants it.  I think that the finale will have a mix of triumph and tragedy.  I see Parish’s plan being partially successful, but he’s either captured or killed.  That’s my prediction, so we’ll see if I’m close.  But how do you kill a guy who can’t die?  I don’t see them decapitating him.  I guess you could burn him but if that happens, I think they’ll leave it open for him to return down the line.  If there is a down the line that is.  There has been no word on whether or not Alphas has been renewed for a third season.  I imagine SyFy is waiting on final ratings, so fingers crossed they’ll be high enough.  Don’t miss the finale next Monday!
