SyFy Celebrates Two Decades with Two Hour Special
It’s kind of hard to believe that SyFy (or Sci-Fi as it used to be known) has been around for 20 years already. All that does is make me feel old. Creaky bones, age and name changes aside, SyFy plan on celebrating their platinum anniversary in style by airing a two hour special on Monday December 10th at 9pm EST/PST. Actors, directors, writers and producers will all rehash their favorite memories which I’m hoping means we’ll get some behind the scenes footage. Check out the official press release below.
NEW YORK – November 27, 2012 – Happy Birthday, Syfy! On Monday, December 10 at 9PM (ET/PT), the Channel will celebrate two decades of award-winning, imaginative entertainment programming during the star-studded Syfy 20th Anniversary Special.
From iconic series such as Farscape, Battlestar Galactica and Warehouse 13 to Ghost Hunters, Face Off and the upcoming transmedia experience Defiance, the special will look back on Syfy’s launch and evolution, and ahead to the future through the personal, behind-the-scenes insights of the creative talent themselves.
Said Dave Howe, President, Syfy & Chiller: “For 20 years, Syfy has been the leader in visionary and provocative entertainment programming. In this celebratory special, the extraordinary talent at the heart of the powerful Syfy brand will talk exclusively about the lasting impact Syfy has had on the media landscape for the last two decades.”
In the two-hour telecast, a wide range of actors, directors and producers will share their memories of popular scripted shows including Alphas, Battlestar Galactica, Being Human, Caprica, Defiance, Eureka, Farscape, Haven, Lost Girl, Sanctuary, Stargate: SG1 and Warehouse 13.
Showcasing a treasure trove of memorable clips, the special will feature interviews with the hosts of the hit unscripted programs Destination Truth, Face Off, Ghost Hunters and Total Blackout.
The Syfy 20th Anniversary Special will also talk to the stars and creators of Original Movies and Miniseries such as Dune, The Triangle, Taken, Tin Man, Alice, Neverland and Sharktopus.
Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) will narrate.
Syfy officially launched in September 1992.
The Syfy 20th Anniversary Special is produced by the Emmy Award-winning company Associated Television International. Executive Producer: Jim Romanovich. Producer/Director: David Stephan.

There is no question that I’ll watch this because this was the network that hosted BSG. I can’t pass up a chance to see Jamie Bamber or Katee Sackoff and I like that they’re talking to some old favorites like the cast from Farscape. That being said, a lot of the folks listed are from shows currently running and two of them have yet to even air (Continuum & Defiance). With all these shows listed, where’s the love for First Wave? Ok, I know that’s going back to the 90′s, but am I the only person who remembers that show? They could have gotten Sebastian Spence on there. He was also a part of BSG and he’s in Blood and Chrome too. They did wrangle Vincent Ventresca from The Invisible Man though so that’s kind of cool. I wonder if he still has that crazy hair.
This should be a pretty cool compilation and a reminder of the awesome shows that have come from this network. While I don’t particularly care for the direction it has taken as of late, I won’t write SyFy off completely. They do manage to surprise me….I’m looking at you Lost Girl!

Didn’t think I was going to watch it, and I did…and now I’m dying to rewatch all of these shows…except Farscape..I tried, I really really tried….I just can’t get into it (and let me say, I hope dude from Farscape is growing the stash/hair for a 70′s trucker role otherwise dude has gone from a hottie to a nottie over the years)……ooh and I can’t wait until next year Defiance and Continuum are looking pretty good….
I watched the first hour but didn’t get to finish it. I’ll continue watching tonight. Loved Good vs. Evil and The Invisible Man way back when. Bummed out they didn’t give any love to First Wave. That was a great show. As for Farscape, I loved it….but you’re in one camp or the other. I don’t think there is any half way with that show. As for Ben Browders ‘stache….he did an episode of Dr. Who that was set in the Old West and I’m wondering if this was filmed around that time.
I’ll watch Defiance and Continuum. I’ve seen the pilot of Continuum and it’s really good. I just hope that they don’t chop it up too much from what was aired in Canada.
