The Call Review

The Call, starring Halle Berry, focuses on a profession that doesn’t get a whole lot of love as far as movies are concerned. In this film, Berry plays Jordan, a veteran 911 emergency dispatcher in Los Angeles. Jordan takes each call with a detached grain of salt until she gets a call from scared teenage girl who is reporting a break in. Needless to say, due to a bad judgement call, the situation ends in tragedy and Jordan blames herself. Never fully recovering from the emotional scars of that incident, Jordan decides that manning the phones isn’t for her anymore and decides to train new recruits instead.
Of course, this being a movie, Jordan is thrust back into a similar situation, this time when Casey, a different teenaged girl played by Abigail Breslin, makes a frantic call to 911 after being abducted and shoved into the trunk of a car by a madman. As Jordan tries to get a fix on Casey and get the police to her location, Jordan discovers that the abductor is the same suspect in the previous case that caused Jordan to rethink her career choice.
