Man of Steel Review

After a seven-year absence, following a lackluster showing in Superman Returns, the iconic comic-book hero finally returned to the big screen this past weekend. Superman is such a hard character to get right and let’s be honest, can anyone compare to Christopher Reeve? No. He was Superman in every way. His looks, his charm, that innocent quality that exuded out of every pore was all perfect. Brandon Routh got a bit of a bum rush I think even though Superman Returns wasn’t all that. He had the look for sure, but there was something missing from that film overall. There is really only one stellar scene in that whole movie and I think everyone agrees that it’s the plane sequence. Although that bullet-hitting-his-eye part was pretty bad ass too. That film took so much heat that I think a lot of folks were worries about the next film adaption. Man of Steel had a couple of things going for it in that it was written by the team behind the latest Batman series, Christopher Nolan, David S. Goyer. As far as directing duties, who else should direct it than someone who has already tackled the revered Watchmen graphic novel? And so Zack Snyder stepped up to the plate. The news was getting better and better.
The first trailers looked quite promising even though they didn’t show very much of the film (which I’m totally OK with). But each time I watched them, I got goosebumps, which is normally a pretty good sign. I was happy to see that maybe this would be the Superman film the world has been waiting for. Warning: minor spoilers ahead so consider yourself warned.
