Being Human Renewed for a Fourth Season

Well it seems my concern was all for naught…..which makes me super duper happy.  The SyFy Upfronts were yesterday and I guess they just wanted to wait until their massive media event to announce what was in store for the show.  The official press release came out yesterday as well stating that the continuing adventures of Sally, Nora, Josh and Aidan would be moving on.  It’s a good thing too because you can end a show with that type of finale.  I mean, I guess you could, and God knows it’s been done time and again, but you catch my drift.  Check out the official press release below.

Being Human Season Finale Recap Episode 3.13 – Ruh Roh

Posted in Television, TV Show Recaps on April 9th, 2013 by Tracy
Being Human Episode 3.13 - Meaghan Rath

Well that’s a wrap on this season folks.  What an eventful finale it was too.  I’ve expressed my concern over the last couple of weeks about how there has been no word on whether or not the show will return for a fourth season.  I asked SyFy the question on Twitter last week and was told “Too soon to know anything yet. We’re still in season 3.”  The reason this makes me nervous is that season three was given the green light within a month of the second season premiere.  All we can do at this point is wait and hope that it will happen.  However, the tweets from the cast during the finale last night sounded very much like goodbye.  Perhaps I’m just reading into things, but my gut tells me otherwise.  I’m be more than happy to eat my words if SyFy does indeed renew it.

Enough about all that.  Last week left off with Josh and Nora spending their wedding night at a cabin, but ended up getting a late night visit from Liam.  Physical Sally is rotting away in her bed where she died….again, and Spirit Sally witnesses some freaky ghost-like shenanigans happening in the house.  Aidan has Kenny chained up in the basement, who we see is affected by Aidan’s blood just like Kat’s ex was, but Aidan doesn’t know it yet.  He’s busy with Kat.

Being Human Recap Episode 3.12 – Always a Bridesmaid, Never Alive

Posted in Television, TV Show Recaps on April 2nd, 2013 by Tracy
Being Human Episode 3.12 - Meaghan Rath_Sam Huntington_Sam Witwer

I can’t stress it enough.  It’s episodes like this latest that show just how good this show can be, especially because the core cast chewed the screen together for the bulk of the episode.  However, it’s not all kittens, rainbows and cupcakes because that’s not how this show rolls.  There’s drama around every corner and since we haven’t seen much of Donna or Liam in the past few weeks, I figured one or both of them would come a calling.

Before we get into the bulk of the recap, I just have to voice my concern once again.  If I remember correctly, SyFy announced the third season early in the second season last year.  Here we are, with only one episode left, and SyFy is keeping mum on whether or not there will be a fourth season.  This doesn’t bode well at all.  They did the same thing with Alphas, waiting until AFTER the season finale to announce that it was cancelled.  It’s really nagging at me and if SyFy says goodbye, I’ll once again be extremely pissed at them for chopping yet one more of my beloved shows.  Until I know for sure, I’ll hold out hope that Josh, Aidan, Sally and Nora will all be back this time next year.

All that being said, this was another solid episode and one that showcased an emotional level that we don’t seen too often.  All four of the main cast members crushed their respective roles this week and if I’m being forced to admit it, I’ll say I even got a little teary eyed while watching.  Damn all of you!

Being Human Recap Episode 3.11 – If I Only Had a Raw Brain

Being Human Episode 3.11 - Sam Huntington_Kristen Hager_Meaghan Rath

Two more episodes until this season comes to a close and we haven’t seen Donna or Liam recently.  I wonder if that means that at some point in the next two episodes it’s all going to hit the fan.  I’m thinking it will.  Especially now that we know something really funky is going on with both of them as well as Aidan and his crazy blackouts that he’s having.  Sally is falling apart…literally and Josh is barely keeping it together.  Although Josh does seem to have a somewhat steely resolve thing going on.  Nora has done an about-face with her attitude….thank goodness.  To be honest I was expecting her to slip back into the anti-Aidan camp after what happened with Pete last week, but surprisingly, she didn’t.

Normally I have a theory on where a show is going leading up to the finale, but I’ll be honest and say that I have absolutely no idea where this show is headed.  It’s kind of nice actually.  That means that whatever happens will be a lovely little surprise.  That being said, this week had a few of those moments so let’s get to it.

Being Human Recap Episode 3.10 – For Those About to Rot

Being Human Episode 3.10 - Sam Witwer_Meaghan Rath

Last week I mentioned that when Roomie finally watched the episode, she was going to freak out when it got to the point where Sally’s toothbrush went through her cheek.  Since I like to see people’s reactions to such horrors, I gave no warning.  Sure enough, my silence was rewarded with a staggering “OH MY GOD!” to which I just snickered.  I guess it wasn’t nice of me to keep silent…especially considering that episode was viewed first thing in the morning over a cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal.

Anyway, this week once again proved that just as things start to get better, they hit another slippery slope.  This episode also hit upon the action/reaction/consequences theme once again too.  Actually, that theme runs through the series on the whole, but is more prominent with some episodes.  This is one of those episodes.  I was happy to see that Nora was back on Team Aidan by the end of last week’s episode, but was a bit surprised she was non-existent this week.  Liam was also missing and I’m curious to find out what’s going to happen with him.  All in due time I suppose.  I did, however, like how this episode featured the dynamic duo of Sally and Josh.

Being Human Recap Episode 3.09 – Of Mice and Wolfmen

Being Human Episode 3.09 - Meaghan Rath Banner

The ending of the last episode was pretty intense what with Liam changing and scratching Josh as Josh tried to get Aidan out of Liam’s dungeon.  Sally’s falling apart.  Nora’s being really bitchy.  Josh will be a wolf again and Aidan only has a day or so left.  I was left with a few questions like, A) how long will they drag out this whole Aidan thing, B) will Nora ever know that he didn’t throw her under the bus with Liam and C) will Sally fess up to the issues she’s dealing with.

So, much to my surprise, my questions were actually answered this week.  First of all, I figured they’d drag out the whole Aidan-having-the-virus thing longer than just one episode.  However, I guess with big bad Liam hanging about, they had to do something and do it quick since you know he’s going to be out for blood.  Literally.  This episode also managed to make me gasp out loud and turn a little squeamish, which is somewhat hard to do.  I know for a fact that when I go back for the second viewing and watch it with Roomie, she is going to come unglued.

Being Human Recap Episode 3.08 – Your Body is a Condemned Wonderland

Being Human Episode 3.08 - Sam Witwer_Sam Huntington_Meaghan Rath

I absolutely love Nora and expressed how happy I was when she became a series regular.  I still do love her, but oh my God, she is kicking my ass with her holier than thou attitude toward Aidan.  Does she not remember she killed Brynn?  Anyway, I get that she’s grieving and whatnot right now since Erin bit the dust so I’ll let it slide.  For now.  Anyway, I think the next few episodes are going to be a bit of an eye opener for her.  At first I was worried that it would put a strain on Josh’s relationship with Aidan, but that doesn’t seem to be the case thank goodness.  What did happen however, is one of my predictions came true in a round about sort of way.  We’ll get to that in a minute.

This season is in the home stretch and with only five episodes left, the shit is really going to hit the fan.  I haven’t seen any word on a fourth season just yet and I always get worried when SyFy waits to announce whether a series has been renewed or not.  The longer they wait, the more nervous I get.  This series likes to end with some sort of cliffhanger and I’m pretty sure they’ll do the same with the end of the third season.  Fingers crossed that if they do, we’ll get that fourth season to see what happens next.

Being Human Recap Episode 3.07 – One Is Silver, and the Other Pagan

Being Human Episode 3.07 - Sam Witwer

Last week the episode ended with Aidan bleeding from the eyes because Erin poisoned his clean blood stash with her own werewolf blood.  She was waiting for Liam to show up to finish Aidan off, but ended up hovering over him holding a wooden stake.  Did she honestly think she could go toe to toe with a 200+ year old vampire?  She’s been a werewolf for like, two minutes.  Anyway, the end of the episode was filled with tension because Aidan was all jacked up, Liam was headed that way, but so was Josh.

This whole Erin/Aidan thing is going to become a Josh/Nora thing pretty quickly since Nora doesn’t trust Aidan anymore, but Josh still does.  I think Nora is totally overreacting if I’m being honest here.  It’s definitely doing to be a sticky situation for all involved.

Being Human Recap Episode 3.06 – What’s Blood Got To Do With It

Posted in Television, TV Show Recaps on February 19th, 2013 by Tracy
Being Human Episode 3.06 - Meaghan Rath_Sam Huntington

Previously….on Being Human…Nora is worried about Aidan and the fact that he isn’t feeding.  That is until Aidan informs Josh and Nora about how he’s been taking a bit of blood from Kenny, the bubble boy.  Nora’s concerned that Aidan is going to fall off the wagon and will end up draining anyone that crosses his path.  Aidan is doing his best to keep his vampire tendencies in check, but is being tormented by the ghosts of two young women he killed.  This is turn makes his vampire traits surface, in front of Kenny.  Liam wants Nora and Josh to kill Aidan, but Josh mans up and tells Liam it’s not happening.  Later on, Liam shows up on their doorstep with Erin in tow.

Sally had to fend off Max’s overprotective mother (who’s a ghost) after Sally and Max did the deed.  However, Max’s mom got her two cents in when she used Sally as a meat suit and broke things off with Max.  Sally found out what happened and made amends with Max, who agreed to give their budding relationship another go.

So, to say things are getting messy would be a bit of an understatement.  This show has always gotten messier as the season progresses, and at this point they’re right on schedule.  So far I am happier with this season than I was last season.  This latest episode doesn’t have very much Josh, and no Nora at all, which was a bit of a bummer.  Regardless, there were some interesting tidbits to be had.

Being Human Recap Episode 3.05 – Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Mouth

Posted in Television, TV Show Recaps on February 12th, 2013 by Tracy
Being Human Episode 3.05 - Sam Huntington

So one of the things that have humored me the most with this show is how all of their episode titles are riffs on song titles.  This latest one left me with raised eyebrows and a chuckle because it’s just not what you would hear Billy Ocean singing.  I’m also convinced that whoever makes these episode titles up has got to be from my generation.  Regardless, they make me laugh.  One of the things that is new this season is how they actually show the episode title in the credits now.  That’s not something that was done in the previous two season and now that I think about it, it’s a bit of a dying art these days.  I honestly can’t think of any other show that I watch that actually shows the episode title.  Fair play to you for standing out Being Human.  Fair play indeed.

So..quick recap….Aidan finally showered and went back to work only to find that he may have a clean food source: Kenny, the bubble boy being housed at the hospital.  Sally tried to steal an identity at the funeral home, but Max caught her and gave her a job instead (if only real life worked like that am I right?).  Josh kind of got his ass handed to him by Nora’s brother when Josh busted in on RJ putting the moves on 15-year-old Erin.  Josh went to apologize to Erin for his actions, but found that she decided to cut and run.
