Prometheus Review

Prometheus was THE movie for me this summer.  The one I’ve been craving for what seems like ages.  The one that I drooled over after having seen that first trailer.  When word came out that Ridley Scott was returning to the science fiction genre, I got goosebumps.  It was an Alien prequel, and then it wasn’t, but it was going to be set in the same universe.  Either way, I was happy.  I just wanted a good sci-fi movie.

There was a lot of hoopla surrounding this film and once the marketing machine started up, it was hard to shield myself from the tsunami of….stuff that littered the web.  Trailers, stills, clips, behind the scenes footage and lastly the viral marketing campaign.  In an attempt to remain as spoiler free as possible, I stayed away from all of it, with the exception of the first trailer, and one I happened to see at the theater only a couple of weeks ago.  I operate under the less-is-more theory.  I don’t want to know anything because I prefer to let it all unfold while actually watching it.  Which was a little hard considering the UK got the film a week before the States, but I prevailed.  Finally Prometheus hit Stateside and to say I was excited would be a huge understatement.

Haywire Review

Haywire Banner

I wrote a bit on Haywire way back in June before the marketing machine went into top gear wondering why this film wasn’t on the radar.  With a director like Steven Soderbergh and a cast that includes marquee heavy names like Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender and Bill Paxton all teaming up with experienced MMA fighter and ex-American Gladiator Gina Carano, how could this film get made so quietly?

It’s a moot point now because as of last weekend, we finally got to see what Soderbergh and Co. have been up to.  It was a risky move casting Carano in the lead, and the question is, did it pay off?

First Trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

There has been so much speculation about Ridley Scott’s latest science fiction film, Prometheus.  Will it be a prequel to his classic Alien or not.  Will it involve the space jockey or not.  Apparently final word is that it is not so much a prequel, but will be relatable to the universe Scott created with Alien back in 1979.

New Trailer for Haywire Brings the Pain

I posted about this film a while back wondering how it seemed that this film was filmed completely under the radar.  It’s got a high profile director and the cast is quite simply, off the chain.  Slowly but surely information finally started to leak out and several months ago we got a peek at the teaser and now we get a trailer.  It may be a short one but what it lacks in time, it makes up for in action.

Under the Radar: Haywire

Steven Soderbergh is one of those directors whose projects always garner a bit of attention.  His CV is pretty impressive and normally when he gathers together an A-list cast, news of the film is all over the web.  So imagine my surprise when I happened across a listing for a new film of his that I hadn’t heard a lick about.  It wouldn’t be so shocking if the film was in the early stages of production, but this one is completed and according to IMDB, is set to be released in August.
