The story of Snow White has been done countless time since the story’s inception.  Most recently, it was the focus of ABC’s hit show, Once Upon a Time.  There were two films based on the character within the last couple of months as well.  Mirror Mirror being the first and now Snow White and the Huntsman.  It’s fair to say that most people know the basic story well enough.  SWATH (because it’s easier to type) steps a little outside the normal Snow White realm and turns it into more of a medieval-action-fantasy-adventure yarn.  It’s risky to spin a classic in a bit of a different direction, but sometimes it’s necessary.

This is a project that I’ve been quietly interested in while at the same time sort of dreading.  I love the reemergence of updated takes on fairy tales most recently seen in ABC’s Once Upon a Time.  Now there are not one but two Snow White films in the works.

I had a banner weekend with movies this weekend.  It’s rare to get four, count ‘em, four movies in a row that were all great.  I’ll be reviewing them throughout the week so be sure to check back.  Sadly though, only one of them was a theatrical release, and that one was Paul.
